When it's blizzarding and frigid, we bundle up in our winter armor and scowl at Sam Champion until he brings us the sun. Then summer comes and we're hot and cranky and complaining about the 14 August weddings we have to go to. And by the time fall rolls around, we have no idea where the summer went and how we could possibly have put on ten pounds when all we've been consuming is Ketel Sodas and Pinkberry.*
Seriously though, it's 85 and GORGE out. And while I admit that it's much easier to be cheery when you're no longer sitting behind a desk sucking wind, I feel it's only fair to bestow upon you some of my favorite ways to escape the heat. Enjoy. I'm off to a Yankee game!
- Central Park shade trees.
- Coffee Heath Bar Crunch (F the Pinkberry. I would never stand on a line that long for fake ice cream, people.)
- Equinox Fitness on 63rd and Lex. I mean, now's not the time to let your abs go to jelly. Plus, it's got a pool and a yummy smoothie cafe, and isn't as crowded as the downtown locations.
- A ride on the Staten Island Ferry. If you haven't done the touristy New York thing, then you're missing out. It is SO fun, nice and breezy on the water, and a perfect way to shoot a roll of film.
- Barneys. Listen, when it comes to upscale department stores, there just isn't anything better. It's chock full of the chicest bags, has a fantastic makeup and fragrance floor, and it's colder than a meat locker. I can't think of a better excuse to go shopping.
- The Treats Truck. Trust me, if you can find this oasis on wheels, you're in for a delightful surprise. Just ask for Sugar.
- Iced venti skinny vanilla lattes. Slurp!
- Drinks at Harry's at Water Taxi Beach. How great does this place look?

I'm jealous - it all sounds fabulous! Here? It's cool and wet....still.
Great insight...I'm dying to visit NY...hopefully sooner rather than later!
Guess what, Little Byrd...it's pretty wet here today, too!
Summer really IS such a nice time to visit, though...it's empty on weekends so you can go to any restaurant you want, and there are great rooftop bars for happy hour.
Oh - I hope you don't mind - added you to my blog love list!
Do I mind?! Love it!! Thank you:)
And, right back atcha...in fact, I thought I had you in there already!
Sounds wonderful! Spring was eaten here too :)
Eee-- I want to go to NYC! :)
That place sounds FAB. I really be there this summer for some cold ones.
I love your metaphors. They are inspiring. - The Button
Aw, thanks guys...and button! I'm really going to make it a point to fully enjoy NYC this summer, and I think you should all do the same...even if it's just for a weekend vacay. That includes trips to Coney Island, Central Park concerts, and mucho Caipirinhas on rooftop bars. Sort of a Bee-on-a-Budget plan, but with really cute shoes.
i've been really really LOVING all these NYC posts from the blogs lately, yours included! it's so cool getting an account of what it's like over there. i've only been there during the toy conventions at javits (around february), but it's always so cold and blizzardy. so it's nice seeing the warm side of nyc too :)
anyway, i'd love to visit nyc soon. it seems like everyone i know is moving there or visiting...
Come, come! And maybe it will inspire some fantastic prints!
Wow..I want to go to NY in the summer time...actually, anything to get away from the Portland gray.
The Yankees! Ahhh I'm jealous!!! Got to see them when they came to SF last year. I was the only Californian rooting for the Bronx Bombers! :)
That water taxi beach is awesome.
Ha, I love that, Teal Chic! And I can't wait to check out the water taxi and post my own pix. This weekend's going to be close to 95°!!
thanks for stopping by my blog! you really identified the biggest problem with us new yorkers! i am glad we are both re-discovering our lovely city!
I agree totally with you on this...being a born and bred New Yorker...we do tend to bitch about our winters, our summers, our fall...but all in all NYC is the best!
