The case of the money launderer

Paul is convinced that our sweet little cleaning lady, Carmen, is stealing extra quarters from our laundry jar. That it should take her $8, at most, to do the wash every two weeks, not $15.

Normally I get annoyed when someone is taking advantage of me financially (cab drivers who take a longer route, any sort of moving company that tacks on extra time when they're clearly picking their ass on my dollar), but I couldn't care less if Carmen is stashing a few extra coins. The woman scrubs my toilet, for Pete's sake. She has a get-out-of-jail-free card, as far as I'm concerned.

Besides, I am a little embarrassed to admit this to anyone outside of NYC, but I haven't done laundry in about three years, so who am I to judge? Don't get me wrong, it's not that I feel I'm above this household chore, it's that my building places the washer and dryer in the basement (like most NYC apartment buildings), where the cobwebs and bugs and other things I've heard about seem to fester, and so I refuse to step foot in it.

If laundry looked like this, maybe I'd be more inclined.

Oh, and for those of you who've been following my brutal cleanse, I'm happy to report that it is OVER and was not nearly as tough as the first go round. I definitely dropped a few pounds but, more importantly, I actually feel healthier and more energized. I'd clean the house or something, but sweet Carmen's got that covered.

So, instead, we're off to the beach! This time, we're really going to make it to the sand. Enjoy the weekend, chickadees!

Steven Meisel images found here. Yeah, they were snapped back in Feb 08, but I challenge you to find a better models-make-all-chores-look-easy photo. Humph.

Hilarious!!! Yes, I also wish my NYC Laundromat looked like that. Mine was down the street 2 blocks - I was one of THOSE people with the push carts full of underwear and towels flapping out the sides on 7th Ave.

Have a great weekend at the beach!

Glad to hear you feel better and great! I've always wondered how people do wash in the city. Is it expensive? I'm so interested in this. Don't ask...guess I have a thing for wash, plus many city questions!

Yeah, I totally look like that doing laundry.

So I'm with you on this one. Not the laundry (because that I don't mind - it's the folding that bugs me) but paying someone to do something that you hate. I have only recently considered getting a cleaning lady JUST to clean our bathrooms. It's the one thing I cannot stand doing and puts me in a foul mood whenever I think about it.

Glad that the cleanse is O-vah and was worth the pain! I swear I'll start my diet. On Monday. (Hey, it's the weekend. That means beers and margaritas.)

Gemma Ward and I always run into one another at the laundromat. We have this little game where we try not to get suds on our haute couture gowns. It's fun AND glamorous at the same time.

What kind of google search sekrets do you have that you ALWAYS find the most marvelously appropriate pictures for your posts? That lady in the designer dress texting, or those two with laundry baskets on their hips stepping outside, make me laugh tons.

Have a great beach holiday!!

Suddenly black tie and laundry make for some good clean fun. I did the cleanse too back in June and need to do it again after a 2 week europe vaca which nixed it all, full of excellent food and no laundry!
Enjoy your clean laundry, your clean body and the fact that you have a Carmen! Does she were a fruit basket on her head?

Oh, Lil Bee -- had these photos saved for a post as well, since you know I'm with you on the laundry thing. And since we're out for dinner nearly every night, it's pretty clear I'm not much of cook either! Hope you had a fantastic weekend.

I would totally give my left pinkie to have someone do my laundry. And I really like that pinkie.

Oh, the laundry shots are amazing! Because I procrastinate for so long, I always have to wear my ball gown when doing laundry because that's all I have left to put on.

So, no bugs and dirt in the grimy basement for you, but they're okay for Carmen?
