And it was decided that we like her. Mucho.
Not just cause of her killer 'kinis and kooky personality. But because our fave little designer from La-la-land has heart. Lots of it. So much so that she's helped rescue and place over 500 dogs in loving homes via her self-launched organization, Ruff Houzen.
I liked her before, but knowing this, I'm smitten. And so I've decided to help her cause.

If you didn't already know, animal rescue is something very close to my heart. See that little tan guy on the right? That's Paco (with Reggie). I brought him home with me from Puerto Rico last October. He'd been abandoned and, like thousands of other animals in PR, was roaming the streets, searching for food. I don't want to get all Sally Struthers on you, so just click here if you want to read about the plight of animals in Puerto Rico.
Since bringing Paco home, I've helped raise money and supplies for Save a Sato, a Puerto Rico-based animal rescue organization that works with partner locations across the country to place "satos"—stray dogs and cats—in loving homes.
Here's where it all comes together.

Till the end of the month, if you make a donation to Save a Sato or Ruff Houzen, or another animal rescue organization of your choice, I will donate, too. If who want to help but can't afford to donate, just leave me a comment here. For every comment I receive, I'll donate $10.
Hopefully I will be donating so much money that it'll hurt a little. No matter how much we raise, I think that together we can all do something really good.
And, listen, if animal rescues aren't your thing, no sweat. Everyone's gotta get behind their own cause, whatever that may be. Thanks for listening to me as I rattle off on my soapbox.
Peace.

Great cause! Thanks for giving it more attention....
this is an issue close to my heart, too -- i'm so glad you posted about it! thanks for all you do! :)
I used to volunteer at a no-kill shelter in NH before I moved to Canada. I used to strap LM to my back while I did my cleaning and walking animals. She loved it!
I would love to make a donation, but unfortunately we can't. With our legal issues from last year (hidden defects), we're in so much trouble$ and I'm not able to go back to work next month for health reasons.
My heart is there for the furry one's cause!
What cute little pups! :) Thanks for sharing!
Paco is very handsome! Its inspiring to see a regular (non-celebrity) person get behind a cause! Thank you!
Both of those puppies are very handsome. It looks like you have a special heart. Also I think Reggie and Paco have a special relationship.
Your Bee-approved dogs made me laugh hysterically!!!
Good cause, great work!
xoxox,
CC
Aw.
I commend you for all you do to support the causes you care for- all those little guys out there certainly have a great friend in you!
That's OK, Gin... you just made a donation of $10! We're up to $80 and counting.
Keep 'em coming, guys!
at least once a week i'm reminded how much alike we are. animal rescue is a huge deal in my book. my cat, Peanut, is a rescue and definitely one of the best parts of my life. i love that you're doing this!!!
xo,
Kelly
PS: is it wrong that i like animals way more than people??
Your pups are SO adorable:) And now they are loved and have a wonderful home!! What a great thing - I would love to do this one day soon:)
This is awesome. You are a real 'dog'atarian.
See Bee, I knew you had a soft side to your sting ;) I love animals too. And all my furry friends are rescues. Fergus - my pup from the Humane Socitey, and Winston & Riley - my two blind kitties from Meow Cat Rescue (People actually encouraged me NOT to get them?! Bastards!). Anyway, let's talk more about me... :p
I'll make a donation! Gotta check the checkbook (by which I mean, call the bank) to figure out what $$. I might make my donation to Rocket Dog Rescue in San Francisco. The founder has an amazing story!
This is all so great, Bee. And so are you, m'dear, for calling attention! :)
Cha - ching!
so sweet. the images the dogs, the cause... so sweet.
OH goodness - what a wonderful cause. This is a great way to use your blog to give back - BRAVO!
You are awesome. What a fantastic idea.
My dog came from the animal shelter as well.
Your 'Dogs' made me laugh!
aw, what cuties :) great post- you are such a sweetie for passing it on.
What a great cause. It's heartbreaking to see pets without a home - I'm so proud of you for stepping up and bringing attention to it!
Your pooches are adorable!
You are awesome!
My Tika was a rescue dog too and I regularly donate to the Denver Dumb Friends League (www.ddfl.org).
It is so sad how many animals live in terrible conditions. Good for you for making a difference!
Miss Bee, Paco is so cute. Your idea is so wonderful!
what a great cause! I have to leave a comment
what an absolutely wonderful cause! i can't wait to hear how it turns out.
Fantastic idea! Your doggie is very sweet looking and soooo lucky to have you for his mama!
I was HOWL-ing at the dogs at the bottom.
Great idea, Bee!
you are such a kook! those dog photos at the end are hilarious. and what a fantastic cause-- i'm totally inspired. those pups are too cute for words. i can't wait for the day that i can have a dog and give it a good, loving home. :)
you are a lovely person. and your pups are awesome...I donate to a local rescue society that deals with cats. It's called MEOW. Each year they sell calendars of kitties that were rescued and now belong to someone, the proceeds from the sale go the the shelter. I adopted my cat Tencents from the animal shelter 12 years ago (there is a picture of her on my recent blog post). I can't stomach people abusing or abandoning animals.
What an awesome thing you are doing! Animals and animal rescue are very dear to my heart also.
What a great idea and a great cause. All of the cats I've ever had have been shelter cats. I have friends who adopted a sato and she is the sweetest, most lovable pup you could wish for. I really believe she knows she was rescued.
Does your paper carry the Mutts comics (I know, what's a newspaper?). Patrick O'Connell (the comic strip writer) is a big proponent of shelter adoption and draws weeks of "shelter stories".
I can't make a $ donation right now but I am going to bring some old towels and blankets to the humane society this weekend (they always need clean bedding for new animals).
PS - I have a crush on Paco.
Thanks so much, guys...your responses so far have been amazing and I love knowing how many of you are involved with pet rescue efforts.
Robin, that is so sweet of you. Supplies are just as important. Plus, I'm making a donation for you, just because you commented. We're up to $270 so far!
Bee, this is such a sweet post -- such a wonderful idea and a great cause. And Reggie and Paco are the completely darling!
i have a sweet dog that was terribly neglected and abused in new orleans. she found her way to me in minnesota through some connections, and i can't imagine life without her. i'm a big rescue fan, and am happy to donate (which i just finished doing). thanks for giving the dogs a voice!
Please count this for another $10 and I'll see what I can do at our no kill shelter here at home.
i am a HUGE animal lover and have such a soft spot for animals in need(sometimes i feel like i have more compassion for animals than people...). i rescued my kitty from our local animal shelter and my heart broke when i saw what a @&!t-hole the animal shelter was and how jam-packed it was with strays! poor, poor animals :( thanks for re-opening my eyes to animals in need. i'm going to make a donation first thing tomorrow morning.
Look at you, you little philanthropist. I love dogs and therefore I comment.
You are the bomb dawg, fo shizzle...no, like you really are! (Is my grammar okay?) I'm heading over to donate toute de suite.
Peace
xo.
T
What a cute pup and a great idea!!!
I don't want you to go broke but...save the pups!
This is absolutely amazing of you. The power of the blog, right! By the way, love the name Ruff Houzen...how clever.
we don't want you to spend all of your dough, we'll make our own donation. thanks for all you do for dogs and this sweet post. love your pups.
oh, I am so glad to have found your blog recently. This is so sweet of you to do this. I will donate too!
I'm big on donating to dog rescues. My fiance and I always donate to our local dachshund rescue. (we have two dachshunds). I think all the doggies out there really appreciate what you are doing!
your two doggies are precious!
Great cause ... and not only was the post terrific, but it has warmed the cockles of my heart to read all these comments.
Wonderful.
Looks like you're going to be forking out some dough & for an excellent cause! The animal cause is also close to my heart, and now I can completely understand this specific organization since I just returned from Peru and experienced the same problem with SO MANY homeless and starving dogs on the streets. So sad! I will donate to your PR organization today and am trying to find a good one to donate to that helps the dogs in Peru also. Great post!!!!!
Bee, just love you for this.
We JUST lost our little papillon, Remy, on Saturday... and I am going to be making a donation to our shelter in his honor.
I don't know if we'll be able to take another one home anytime soon, but when we're ready, you better believe it'll be a rescue!
Bravo!! Although many of us are passionate about our 4-legged friends (or other-legged as the case may be), I'm often disheartened by how lots of people do dismiss the needs of animals. My husband I donate to many animal rights organizations as often as we can, and I'm only too happy to do it now to help support your initiative. Well done, and I am eager to keep reading your blog!
A very valuable cause! There should be more kind-hearted people in the world. No wonder Susanna wanted you to fill in for her! I'll be stopping by to check in again! Happy blogging and Sato saving!
You have a massive heart - and very inspiring. So there didn't have to be any currency converting, I've just donated to our Local Animal Rescue League and plan to make it a regular payday occurence.
Meanwhile, my own little pup was on my lap as I was reading your post and she had a little bark at Paco and Reggie. I hope these donations go a little way to making some other dogs as loved as her.
you are a gem, bee.
i just got one of my cats from a no-kill. both of them were last minute saves. it breaks my heart that thousands of animals are put down every single day. 2 of my dogs were rescues as well. oh my gosh, they are all wonderful creatures. one of my favourite charities to give to is the spca, especially right now when there are a lot of pets that have been abandoned due to the mortgage crisis. i wish i could take them all.
Thank-you for saving Paco! And Thank-you for bringing to light the on-going effort to rescue dogs here and abroad.
:-)
This is something you and I have in common...as I too am a sucker for saving abandoned/stray dogs. You go girl, thanks for all that you do sister!!!
Wow, you pretty much rock, don't you! Kudos!
My sweet Burks is a rescue too. Oh, how much I love her so!! So fantastic for you to bring such awareness.
What a great thing! What a great feeling for you!
Hooray! Thank you!
This is fab! I'm really impressed with what you've done. :)
dolla dolla bills, dawg.
I love animals so much, and any animal related cause is super close to my heart. This is such a great thing that you are doing! I'm amazed.
I can't believe I haven't commented yet. I am such an animal lover. Like huge. What you are doing is so cool and such a great idea and now I want to do it, too. If I had more money (or really any at all at this point) I'd match your donation. But I can't do that. :( So I'll just comment here instead. :)
This sure is nice of you!
I am liking your blog. You are really funny.
Thanks for the entertainment.
I'm a huge dog lover so I'm very glad that you are doing this!
Because I love my piglet most of all.
We had Huevos Rancheros for dinner, and didn't give any to my dog. She loves us anyway.
Awesome idea...
Love the dogs and the idea!
I recently posted about helping our little furry friends on my blog. I am so happy to see this post from you. This is so smart. You are the number one best ever! My hero.
You're the best!
Our pup was rescued from Katrina and the best addition to our family!
From me, Penelope & Paisley! WE LOVE RESCUES! Daddy is out of town, so they'll be sleeping in the bed tonight!
This is such a great thing that you're doing!
What a wonderful thing you've brought to our attention. I will be donating as soon as I get paid.
xo
haha this may sound completely dumb but if your the dog lover like i think you are you'll totally understand (and not think i'm crazy) when i say this..
so when my husband and i are talking to our dogs...haha (they talk back but we sorta talk for them ya know) we always use silly accents and speech impediments.. haha and i've always wanted a dog from another country because i've always told my husband that if they come from another country they probably speak with an accent.. obviously. haha so i don't know if that made any sense.. but since we got our dog lacey from the pound she talks all ruff like shes from the streets ya know.. then we have bella our youngest who is spoiled and talks like a little spoiled brat. haha so i bet paco talks with an accent. haha okay that was the weirdest comment i think i've ever left...sorry if your confused. hahaha
I'm having fun procrastinating and looking at some of your older posts. :)
