This post is brought to you by the letter B and the number 6.

The lovely Teal Chic tagged me on Monday, which means I'm charged with telling you six things about myself. Six things you probably don't already know. So here goes...

1. I went to Syracuse University. I started off as a pre-veterinary major and, five years later, emerged with a B.A. in advertising design and minors in art history and painting.

2. Now I plan events for fashion magazines.

3. Yellow is my favorite color.

4. I've broken my foot (can't remember which one), sprained both ankles, broken three fingers, and dislocated my knee (I think my left one).

5. I like airplane food—when they still serve it.

6. I have synesthesia. This just means that when I hear a number or read a word, I see a color. And it's always the same color. For instance, the name Edward is white with green d's. The number 46 is orange and a deep purple-blue.

I never knew that associating colors with numbers or letters was weird or unnatural for anyone else until I did a mixed-media project in college about how I "see" the alphabet, and my professor had no idea what I was talking about. I got an A, but she pretty much thought I was delusional. A few years later, 60 Minutes aired a study on synesthesia, and I realized that not everyone likes the color 3 because it is yellow. Looking back, it was very unsettling when Sesame Street's letter and number sponsors clashed.

If anyone else would like to share the innermost parts of their brain, please leave a comment here and we'll all stop by and have a look. You've got a freak flag. You've just gotta wave it.

Sunny days found here.

what an entertaining post! i answered these questions a couple months ago, and needless to say, my answers were bit bland compared to yours. oh, and airplane food has always been a fav of mine. i don't know why i settle for rubbery chicken when up in the air and never anywhere else, but that's just how i am.

That is a very interesting post it seems that your brain is one of the more special brains in the world!

I'm discovering that more and more interesting, creative people I know have synethesia. Murray's reading this book about it, so thought I'd pass it along in case you hadn't come across it yet and were interested: http://www.amazon.com/Man-Tasted-Shapes-Bradford-Books/dp/0262532557/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1218297486&sr=8-1
Sounds cool...

I love this post. I really enjoyed your six facts. Please do more next time!

Didn't you love Sesame Street? I always loved the scenes with Bert and Ernie because they had an apartment. But I badly wanted to paint the walls and hang better window treatments.

I must have gotten a fraction of the synesthesia gene, because I only see my name in green. Have had that image since PreK 4 when I did an art project with my name and used kelly green to outline my name in cursive.

Or I'm just defective.

I loved reading your answers! Yellow is really turning out to be a fav for me too. I'm jealous of your job, seems so fun! And lady you aren't a freak you're a genius, I never heard of synesthesia!

I love the way you put that. "You've got a freak flag. You've just gotta wave it." Love that. I think synesthesia sounds pretty interesting. What color is the letter S? That's my favorite letter.

Something freak flaggish about me? Well, I don't think it's odd, but apparently other people do. I am massively organized and I alphabetize most everything. Even my spice rack. Not, however, my clothing. I may be odd, but I'm not that odd.

Wow, I'd heard about synesthesia but never really considered how it might be for someone.

Freak flag... well, I think everyone has a bit a that! Some more than others, but hey, that's what makes the world go round, eh?! I'm sure I've got plenty...

This is the most interesting set of answers ever! I wish I saw letters/numbers as colors :)

my younger sister totally has synesthesia! i asked a psych professor of mine about it once and she had no clue what i was talking about! i think it's pretty cool.

I don't usually love memes - but this one was a great read. I've never heard of synethesia. But really, if you are going to have a quirky brain - that's the way to do it. I kind of wish mine worked that way...

I also know what you mean about being surprised the other people don't have something that you take for granted. From the time I was little until sometime in my teens I would hear voices as I fell asleep at night. I know - sounds a little schizophrenic - but it was just something my brain would do before I fell asleep - like cycling through my day. I only realized that it wasn't something everyone experienced when I was talking to my therapist about it (I know - even worse - but my family was always very pro therapy, so it wasn't therapy for anything more than teenage angst).

Now I'm feeling very creepy and exposed. I'm actually a lovely (and very normal) person. And if I hadn't already had a few glasses of wine I would have deleted this by now... Ah well - what the hell.

I think I'm actually jealous about your synesthesia. It's completely fascinating to me... It must be a little trippy at times, though, huh?

Thanks for sharing - I think I'm also jealous of your synesthesia! It sounds so amazing!

WOW - the synesthesia sounds like a real gift! I had to laugh about the Sesame Street comment.

Great post!

Relyn: "S" is a raspberry color.

I totally hear you on the synesthesia thing -- I have "spatial" synesthesia, where all of the days of the week or months or years are 3d images in my head. Same for numbers. October is down and to my right and kind of blurry. They don't have colors in my head, but shades and intensities -- though, some of the days of the week have colors. Thursday is green! :)

Me too! The months start at the top and go to the right until July. August heads downward until September...then back to the right thru December.

Thursday is yellow/orange though, sorry!

Kate...I love it!

first of all: FASCINATING! Never heard of such a thing. But I think scents have colors. When I smell something (a perfume, puppy's breath) I associate specific colors with that scent. Waving my flag, baby!

Just getting around to checking out your tag. I love checking out these mini bios. I see that you have probably always been passionate about animals, hence your pre-vet major. We just rescued a stray cat and have found that it is pregnant. Any pointers?
As for the color/number thing, it's totally new to me. Sounds fascinating. I'll have to read up on it. Unfortunately I don't think I have an interesting flag to wave!

Completely fascinated by the synesthesia! And liked learning a little more about you as well :) Does that mean the number 3 is your fav?
