Office space.

It's week four of my Domino The Book of Decorating design challenge and I'm here to tell you that renovating a house is not as 1-2-3-lickety-split a process as I'd like it to be. However, in the past week we've made some BIG progress, transforming my office from this...

...to this!

I used Benjamin Moore Studio Finishes Chalkboard paint—perfect for to-do lists!—inspired by Jenna Lyons' son's bedroom, below.

As you'll recall, my office is a little alcove off of our family room. The yellow paint you see below will be replaced with pale gray, which I think will contrast nicely against the black chalkboard paint and white trim.

One of my favorite pieces of furniture that we own is the desk above, an heirloom from my grandfather. I've decided to move it into our front room, just off of the foyer, to give it a little more presence. In line with the office's neutral color scheme, my new desk is going to be modern. What do you think of this one in white from West Elm? $299.

Next steps will be building shelves above my desk and finding a comfortable chair for guests. I'd love something with blue ticking stripes, to play off of the indigo throw rug and blue and yellow accent pillows I'm seeking out for my family room. Reminders below...

So, there you have it! My new, not-quite-finished-but-decidedly-post-worthy office space. Whaddya think? Peter? Samir? Damn, it feels good to be a gangsta.

love all the ideas and west elm is definitely my go-to stop for fabulous home furnishings. i'd go with a white desk and a bright red chair to brighten up the space. xo

I love that you used chalkboard paint! I'm going to do that when we move and my kids have a playroom.

Good luck decorating!

I always like West Elm online, but the construction disappoints me when I see it in the store. Just my two cents! But I luuurv the blackboard paint.

It looks fantastic, super slick. I think the grey will work beautifully with it. And that desk is gorgeous (but heck, so is your grandfather's - both I'd covet!).

I LOVE the color of your office! It looks so pretty, and it'll look great with that gray too. And the desk is gorgeous. I think you're well on your way to an awesome space!

the blackboard wall is such an awesome touch. you'll write on it for everything! i actually had that paint on one wall of my house in college. just a tip: it gets super messy trying to wipe off with just an eraser. you might have to whip out a kitchen sponge and water.

this is looking very cool. can't wait for the gray...one of my fave rooms ever i think was a debbie travis britty thing from ages ago...inky walls with white mod pieces and a few baroque things thrown in...oddly, it wasn't too much, and i still remember it years later.

did i mention this is looking cool? love west elm. xoxo.

OK, first off thank you for referencing the best musical montage in movie history!

Second off, this is shaping up so beautifully! I adore the cozy little nook you've created for yourself, and I especially love how you've been able to incorporate your grandpa's desk. Can't wait to see the other rooms come together!

I LOVE it and I remember Beckett's room from that Domino story. I also love the idea of painting the other walls grey for contrast. believe it or not but Jennifer Convertible has some lovely chairs and you can pick the fabric yourself. they are very reasonably priced and they have patterned furniture (stripes included) or solid colors with different colored piping. Plus, even a love seat or single pulls out into a bed. just a thought...

Love this!

The West Elm desk has been a favorite of mine for a long time! Nice job with the office paint choice! One could spend hours chalking up those walls with all sorts of designs. I sure hope you are enjoying your new place.
