No.
This is a post about the high you feel when you spot that perfect—and perfectly affordable—chair at Ikea, and the low that ensues when you get said chair home, spend an hour putting it together, and discover that the mother f’er who sold it to you gave you THE WRONG SLIPCOVER.
(Left: The length of the slipcover I requested; right: the length of the slipcover I came home with, which I've now learned is the only length available in the black and white pattern. Awesome.)

Also, in my haste to get my office decorated, I may have failed to factor in the depth of the chair before I bought it. It may also take up half the room.
So, to remedy the situation, I’m taking a cue from Domino The Book of Decorating and am assessing my options. I can either a) drive back out to Paramus to exchange the chair, or b) find another spot for the striped wonder and get a new chair for my office.
I’m leaning toward b, and I think I know just the spot for it.
Our living room—the one with the soon-to-be-white fireplace—is getting a makeover, starting with this loveseat in sage green.

I haven’t decided on the rest of the room’s furnishings yet, but I do know that this gorgeous little number from Ruby's Lounge will be arriving to me in 4-6 weeks, and it shall be hung above our mantle!

Do you love it? (P.S. Thanks, Abbie, for the tip!)
So, with those two items in mind, how would we feel about having the black and white chair as an accent piece? Do the legs on the chair bother you? Am I being too picky? Should I suck it up and trek back to Paramus, or do you like the look of this bad boy?
Thanks for weighing in, and I’ll be back next week with selections for my new (Take Two) office chair.

I totally have love/hate relationship with IKEA. I've been burned on "availability" issues a number of times. The chair is cool, though. Suppose it depends on the floor and the other woods in the room (I'm not one to mix in too many if I can help it.) Maybe you want to paint them? I'd hate to have to return it, but, hey, if it doesn't work, it doesn't work... don't live with it just 'cuz.
This is the deal....get pissed at Ikea for about 5 minutes. Then move on and put the chair somewhere even better. Then GO SHOPPING again. See it is actually a sign that you were suppose to get that chair....just not for your office :)
THE END!!!
Ooh...that's not a bad idea, Michelle. Maybe I can paint the legs white! Yoooou... :)
Saw those deer heads in person and they are incredible! I can't wait to see the whole room transformed. If the legs bother you, you could always switch them out: http://www.bingltd.com/
the chair is a very nice classic style and not worth the tolls and aggravation going back to good 'ol paramus.
if it goes with the room, i'd paint the legs in a heartbeat or stain them a darker color. i'm always being teased because i paint everything white.
looks like the chair will go with that awesome deer's head! i love it - looks like porcelain and no animals were harmed.
I think the chair would go great! The legs don't bother me because the match the brown/wood of the antlers.
And I've been through the same thing with Ikea. There's nothing more frustrating!
funny, was reading your post thinking "paint the legs white, make them dissappear!" great minds think alike.... ready through your comments and there you go! you thought of it already!
love the antler tips exposed! what a great piece!!!
callie
Bee, I love the chair. I think I like it with the legs more! Keep it! If the budget allows, get another for the study. I agree, it's a classic style and will go anywhere. I LOVE the deer head. You are sooo cool! A-M xx
Cindy--yes--it's fake! I would never! You should check out Jenn's etsy shop, Ruby Lounge. She covers the stag heads in paper, all different colors. I'm in love with them, too.
Glad you're all liking the chair. I am hoping it works in the living room, since I really don't want to hoof it back to Jersey.
I like the idea of painting the legs white for some reason with the longer slip cover it looked more comfy to me? I'm all about giant comfy chairs!
Oh, keep it! I do like the skirted version, but definitely keep it. You could always find a different cover for it down the road.
We don't have an Ikea in our state...Boo!
I don't mind the legs so much, but I know what it is like when you have a certain look in your head - it's hard to go around! I think the chair would look great with that loveseat and "antler" set!
I do like the chair...in fact, I want the white one for myself. I would keep it and reuse it again, but I'm the queen of no returns. I hate HATE hate to take things back...especially something that big.
Sweet Courtney, you are a genius, once again. Where did you find that site?! Love it.
I'd say buy some spray paint and paint the legs... the stripe is cute... bummer on the length, but it's not that bad! and maybe you could even do a solid skirt around the bottom in black... like a band... but depending on the length it might compete with the stripes and might be hard to keep black clean right against the floor!?
oh dear god, don't you have when that happens! I bought a white slipcovered sofa from there, and the idiot gave us the wrong size cover for it.
an hours drive away, with three kids in tow.
nice.
thanks ikea for hiring such great staff.
Love the stripes, hate the legs! Get some high gloss black paint and go to town! I think it will make the chair look more expensive. I think white would make it look too little girl's room. It needs a dark base. Sometimes annoying mistakes end up in great solutions!
Okay...yes I could give my 2 cents about the great chair debate of 2009...but I'm too pissed to process! YOU'RE getting the deer head?!! OMG...color me uber f*ing jealous! Crappity, crap, crap! I am happy for you, B. Really...uh huh...happy. For you. ;)
The chair? Unless you're providing me with the means of doing an onsite consultation...you're on your own, Sister Girl!
(I guess it could work in the living room? I think I'd paint out the legs. For me I'd go black. What does Pablo think?)
keep the chair! first, i love it, and second, yes, i think it'd be a fabulous piece with the sofa and art... oh, you are inspiring me to save my money to re-do my living room...
Lindsey, Beefy--I like the idea of black feet for the chair! I was thinking white, but black could be really sleek.
Pablo likes the chair, Beefy, and actually, last night, after he'd finished putting it together, suggested we paint the chair legs. Such a savvy hubby, wouldn't you say?!
My god, that dear head is fantastic. My future Cape Town apartment needs a kudu head just like it.
And personally, I like the legs-- but I don't know exactly what look you're going for. It's a little casual if you're going for something more formal.-X
Savvy? I'll say! Look who he married! ;)
Huh?
What?
Oh that?
Yeah, that brown stuff on my nose is always there. But thanks for being considerate. Isn't that just like you?
.........
See what I mean?
I've had that site saved for over a year now -- I was going to have a woodworker make me a bed and I was planning to order some feet for it from that site, but alas changed my mind. Even if you don't find some on that site in particular, perhaps another "foot" website. But definitely try painting them first and see what you think!
Keep the chair and paint the legs like many suggested. But i would totally get the white, more comfy looking one on the left and add a couple of little stripy pillows...I have purchased chairs from IKEA before and stained the legs dark to match the rest of our furniture and I've been happy with the outcome. Oh, decisions!
I like the chair. And the geniuses who said paint or switch out the legs are, well, geniuses!
I LOVE the horns. LOVE. And, I do like the chair as an accent. yes. definitely. If the legs bother you you could paint them? You could also get an accent pillow for the loveseat or the chair to match the other one...
I say paint the legs WHITE....love the stripes...! WOW i'm sooo JEALOUS...your getting the pretty piece from Ruby's lounge...EXCELLENT choice. : )
Can't wait to see it when all done.

gorgeous pieces bella. I say - buy all the stuff you love, surely it all has to work together if you love it. can't wait to see pics of the end product of the makeovers xxx
Well actually - I really like the chair! and because you have had an ordeal with it - you may find you actullly grow to be arther fond of it.
I fell out with IKEA over a circular bed in 2006 - we still dont speak.
and i LOVE that antler head - its brilliant! Your home is gonna look so lovely! xx
I really like the look of the stripes... I think it'd look cute with the sage sofa (we have almost the exact same one!).
That 'deer head' is awesome, and I can't wait to see it up!
Ah, Vana...see, therein lies the problem. When you have one chocolate brown dog and one light brown dog and eight little paws that like to get into EVERYTHING, well, it sort of prevents you from going the all-white route. (I learned this VERY quickly when Paul and I first started dating and Reggie made my light blue floral bedspread from ABC Carpet & Home turn a nice taupe-y color.)
OK, so now I'm torn between the black legs and the white. Thankfully, I have both paints on hand, so I'll try 'em both out.
And Cherry—I hear you on the fallout with IKEA. We've been calling each other names all week. It's pretty ugly. I'm winning the fight though. I stomped my right foot and HUMPHed and IKEA got the message, loud and clear.
Now, now, easy folks - my hubby works for IKEA! Not as a salesperson though, thank goodness. :P
LOVE the paper deer head - oh how I want one for above our fireplace/mantle!!!
Oh my god, I effing LOVE the deer head. That's amazingly wonderful. You could have a room with nothing but him & I would love it! Sorry about the chair issue, I would absolutely use it somewhere else & get something new for your room!
Love the chair! I have to admit that I tend to not pay much attention to measurements and end up frustrated from time to time.
I am so glad you ordered the mount! It is too fun.
