Mellow yellow.

Welcome to Chez Bee! As you may recall, our guest room has undergone quite a few transformations since we first moved in.

Here it was in its first incarnation: Sunkist orange.

Inspired by Jenna Lyons's son's room, I painted over the orange in Benjamin Moore Yolk. As you can see, it ended up looking more like Hulk Hogan's wrestling gear than a sunshiny retreat.
No bueno.

And now...drumroll, please...our new guest room in Benjamin Moore Butter.

What do you think? I think it's something along the lines of Neutral Bohemian with a touch of Glam. Fresh and springy. Just the way I like it.

what a perfect yellow...so soothing and fresh, great for a guest room! may i ask...are you considering some new bedding? perhaps something mainly white with black piping for a geometric, clean look? i'm thinking something a la Kelly Wearstler's vibe from the Viceroy in Palm Springs.

Ooh...I like it, thanks Em! Yes...this bedding is my old bedding from the city. We upgraded to a King so I put the Queen-size duvet on here for now. I need to hang curtains, too. And add some wall decor or something! Baby steps, baby steps...

It is SO much better than the first yellow! Wow. What a transformation. I really dig the boho vibe of the room!

You did good! Love that color, much better than icky wrestling shorts and soda color.

OH, that's perfect! I love the bedding! It's funny how paint can be so great in your head and then not so great on your walls (I have done this many, many times).

Also, have you thought about a headboard?

beautiful! what a relief. white linens with black piping would be so classy!

Zak-I definitely need a headboard for this room and my room, which I'll show you guys soon. I found some cute ones at Target, of all places. And I remember seeing one in Amanda Peet's home (in Domino, of course) from Land's End, of all places, that I really liked. If you guys have suggestions, bring 'em on!!

LOVE! this yellow is so soft and I bet it will be soothing at night and so welcoming in the morning. You can make your own headboard:) my family has been doing it for years. You can have a carpenter make it for next to nothing with cheap plywood, then you use a staple gun to staple foam to make it soft and then choose your own fabric and add cover the foam with it. The back of the head board is hollow and it's fairly easy to staple gun plywood even over the foam. I know it sounds a little crazed but it looks beautiful and it's custom to whatever you want:) You can choose a bedspread that goes with whatever headboard fabric you choose and you can have an accent pillow that matches the headboard. I'm loving this idea:)

ps--my word verification is aptly "resting" !! :)

Great color. Much better than the first yellow. It's so relaxing. I agree with everyone that some white linens with a pop of black would look great in here as well.

what a fresh color! i'd love to wake up to this. i think a great geometric print or just plain jane white solids could make this room shine!

You have great style - your home is really coming along! And that Amanda Peet feature was one of my faves of all time (I know I'm one of many)... I still flip through it frequently. Are those blossoms I see on that tree outside?? I miss Westchester in the Spring....

I love this yellow....my whole place is painted in a very similar color- Jicama, by Ben Moore. Lovely!

I also love that the room is shaped like the top of the house- my bedroom from growing up had the shape of our roof and I loved living in a room that wasn't just a box!

Lots of luck, can't wait to see how it comes along!

I like the last one. The pastel yellow is more soothing on the eyes, and gives the room a very serene feeling. I'm kind of in love with it. :)

Thanks so much, guys! It is coming along...fun to see it happen in steps. You all have such good suggestions. I'm thinking we'll get another set of bedding that is white with black piping, and keep this as an alternate. (I love this bedding too, Erika...and we actually got it because brown bedding is WAY easier to clean than white bedding when you have dogs--as I'm sure you can relate to!)

I just need to find a good headboard first...

so much better! definitely a nice springy shade. it just brightens up the whole room

Gypsy Lynne said...

love it!

there is nothing worse than painting a room and afterwards, deciding that it looks terrible! in our old guest room, i was going for "burnt orange" and it looked like crap! people, my grama included, weren't shy about telling us how bad it was! :)

WOW, that's a HUGE difference and the yellow is perfect now:)
