No more Rainbow Brite.

After five test patches of varying shades of gray, I finally settled on one that I like for the family room: Benjamin Moore Metropolitan. And yesterday it was painted from floor to ceiling by my new favorite person, Victor the Painter! Today he's tackling the master bedroom (in a sage-y color) and tomorrow he'll paint the guest room (a neutral buttercream to replace Hulk Hogan yellow). I'll be sure to post before-and-afters for you.

If I can offer a bit of advice for anyone looking to buy a home, it is this: if the home you are purchasing is decorated in fourteen different acid-colored hues, have it painted white before you move in. Or at least something neutral. This way you won't feel compelled to cover up Sunkist-orange with Chiquita-banana yellow.

I do heart our little love shack though!

Psst: For more decorating advice, check out my friend Paloma's new site, Decorum Design Forum. It may save you from your own design disasters.

SO TRUE! when i bought my house this past summer i painted all but the living room the first weekend after closing, before i even moved in. as painful as it was (seriously, how do guys like Victor do that for a living??!!) it paid off!

Ooooh...those colors sounds dreamy. We had the interior of our house painted a couple years ago and I'm thinking of doing it all over again {myself}. I'm dreaming of a more neutral palette. Can't wait to see your "after" rooms.

i hope you don't think less of me, but i love the colors of the rooms.... or, maybe i just love the photos. i'm guessing green walls doesn't do wonders for a complexion. and furnishing rooms those colors would be such a pain. ok, i take back that i love the colors!

Jen- the funny thing is I really liked some of the colors when we first saw the house too! But you have to decorate using those colors then - couches, drapes, etc. It gets to be too annoying. You will be happy to know though that we are keeping the green dining room for now until I can afford my dream wallpaper!!

Can't wait to see more...Good advice...have them paint it white before MOVING IN. That wasnt the case for me 2 of the four bedrooms were painted in kiddie colors...and I dont have kids. So had to TOTALLY pain them over. ha!

I had a sneak preview of the color changes, it is a fabulous change. The new colors make it feel like a warm and special place. Once again there was a reference to Hulk Hogan...I would like credit for that refernence or my people will be in touch with your people.

Anon: Is that a threat?!

All: Let it be known that my funny, smart, witty husband Paul was the first to reference the color in our guest room as being "Hulk Hogan yellow." I apologize for any misrepresentation.

Hulk Hogan visits your blog? Lucky girl.

Btw...you inspired my purchase of the Domino Decor book, and I want to thank you for that. The UPS guy came to deliver it, and he was so hot. Words weren't making sense as they were leaving my mouth. haha

That really is a great idea. I never would have thought to ask them to paint it first. Great idea!! I hope I can remember it.
