Well, say hello to our new wall, the one with pretty, gray floor-to-ceiling bookshelves!
It comes complete with built-in storage below and a brand new set of stairs leading up to our den!
Now we just need to expand our book collection, which is currently subsidized by miniature Star Wars figurines, photos, and maracas. I'm thinking some old classics will do the trick.

Not only are these shelves beautiful, they are such a great way to add extra storage for all those little things you'll be collecting along the way in life...great vision. Just wondering...do you recommend the people that did the work? My husband and I are looking into having some built-ins for our NYC apartment, but don't know who to trust and just exactly where to begin! Any tips/suggestions?

I love shopping thrift stores for old classics (and often cheaper than used bookstores). Just an idea!
Thanks so much, guys! It feels good to finally have one complete project. Magchunk: I love that idea! And Claudia: email me and I will put you in touch with my contractor. He does excellent work and has been featured in some magazines. I am really happy with him.

Love it. So much better than the yellow. And stock up on books at thrift stores, even if it is just for decoration. My husband buys the classics so we look smart.
we could use some of your magic in our lives right now - just bought a house and we are starting from scratch with everything. this room looks amazing - it really is perfection!
built- in bookshelves? be still my beating heart. the transformation is truly amazing! i love a good before and after shot.
is that the infamous pottery barn couch in the foreground?
Kiwi: It's actually a C&B sectional. And the pillows are from Ikea.
girL: My advice is focus on one room at a time. It can be overwhelming but if you get through the necessities first, it's actually a lot of fun!!
So gorgeous! Girl, you make things happen. FAST.
looks Fabulous!!!
YES!!!! Really really nice.
I hope you won't mind when I move in. I"ll just squeeze right into one of the little storage units down there. Freaking gorgeous!

This turned out great! I love the color and thank you for posting the name of it. I've been thinking about painting my kitchen cabinets gray and this seems to be just the look I was dreaming of. :
Best. Bookshelf. Ever. Did you guys do it yourselves or did you hire someone? Either way, it looks amazing!
are you kidding? this looks like a magazine...when you are finished with your pretty home, will you come over and do mine? thanks...xo t
Anne: I had an idea in my mind of what I wanted for a long time. I used to walk home to my first apartment in NYC and look up at this one brownstone that had floor-to-ceiling bookshelves in a deep burgundy color. Ever since then, I was determined to have them in my home. When we met with our contractor, I talked to him about my idea and then printed out a photo from Domino that I loved...that one with the army green velvet curtain in front? My contractor suggested the beaded board in back, which I loved because it echoes the beaded board in our entryway and kitchen. And then we decided to paint it gray to give them some depth. And there you have it!!
And, Frenchie—anything for you, my sweet!
Looks great Bee!! xx
