The Five Things Project

As crazy as it sounds, sometimes I feel overwhelmed when I have too much free time. There've been so many years where I've looked back on a relaxing summer and wondered where all the time went. So, I've decided to do something about it. This year, Paulie and I are enacting the Five Things Project. Here's how it works:

Both of us made a list of five things we'd like to accomplish each day and by summer's end. The idea is that your list encompasses only the things you really want to do, things that, when you look back on the experience, make you feel like you did something worthwhile. They don't have to be monumental tasks, just things that make you happy.

Here's a sneak peek at my lists:

Five Things I Want to Accomplish Each Day:
1. Take the dogs on a long walk.
2. Read.
3. Take at least one photograph per day.
4. Eat dinner with Paulie.
5. Spend time outdoors.

Five Things I Want to Accomplish This Summer:
1. Have a tag sale.
2. Take another staycation with Paulie.
3. Spend time with my mom learning how to crochet.
4. Finish decorating our den and nursery.
5. Go to the beach as much as possible.

See? Simple as that! Nothing makes me happier than a good to-do list. So, feel free to join in if you'd like. And for those of you who think this makes me certifiably crazy, I blame the pregnancy hormones

Happy summer!

i love lists. and i love this idea. breaking goals down into seasons seems so much more rewarding than doing a new year's resolution sort of thing!

You're not crazy!!! A to-do list is sooo satisfying!

Good luck with yours, I really like it. I should write one up now, I need some motivation in my day!

Not crazy at all! I was just talking to my mom the other day about my final realization that I am in fact a planner. I plan EVERYTHING. I make lists of what to clean, buy, wear. I time myself when I do some of these things. It's insane. But I love it! And I love the list of things to accomplish this summer. So here's mine:

1. Buy a house (it will happen - I know it will)
2. Go camping (It's been too long)
3. Listen to music while cooking dinner(instead of the TV)
4. Buy a palm tree (for my new house)
5. Go to the racetrack at least 3 times!

Happy Summer!

How could making great to-do lists make you crazy?? I love your goals...I definitely want to do the long walk thing with my dog, spend time outdoors & take a staycation with my hubby. I also really want to do outdoor activities like tennis, swimming laps, hiking & biking! Oh, and read all the Twilight books. And see really great classic movies. I will continue my to-do list in your comment space throughout the summer as I think of them...lololol.

Everything on those lists is lovely. I admire your choices and the hormones are doing good if they interfered here!

Show us a snapshot as you go along from the recipe to the crochet result, thanks for the birthday wish, x

i am such a fan of lists. at a garage sale, i found a big pad of paper that was labeled 'things to do today' and each line has a box next to it to check when you're done.
it's in a 70's font and i kind of want to hang a macrame plant holder in the corner so complement the yellowed paper.
and i'll admit something:
sometimes i write things down i've already done so that i can cross them off. because sometimes i just need that little push of accomplishment to keep me going.

Oh to read daily. The birth of the dude KILLED that for me. I'm hoping to get back to it someday. Does blog reading count?

Such a cool idea, I should really do that. I like that they're not insurmountable tasks...I need to get better at making my goals challenging but realistic. :)

crazy? oh, no! I can't get anything done if it's not on my to-do list, it keeps me sane.
btw - congrats on your little-one-to-bee!

What a great idea! You've definitely inspired me - and in fact, there are a couple things that I could put on there and then cross off (new ceiling fan, paint walls).

Oh, and your Fourth of July in Cold Spring NY looks like it was idyllic! 400 years?? I can't even comprehend. Around here 40 years is considered a long time! LOL!

Hope your foot is feeling better!

I love making lists too, but I have a hard time committing & normally end up w/ list after list just laying around the house. Maybe if I follow the 5 things, I can keep one short enough to be practical! Thanks for the idea. ;)
