Lovely Lonny

Last week Abbey had a really insightful post about the sad closing of Gourmet—which, of course, joins the ranks of Domino... and Blueprint... and Cookie. What does it all mean to our demographic? Where is our voice?

So I was thrilled to download the very first issue of Lonny magazine, an online publication that champions accessible design and features some extremely talented (and familiar!) faces. And as I flipped through the issue, I couldn't help but notice two very distinct trends:

Chic, simple bar carts...

...and sleek black lamp shades.

File under Things I Want For My Dream Dining Room, thank you very much.

i noticed both of those trends as well, now that you mention it. i saw a bazillion bar carts at the flea market this past weekend, but couldn't think of where i'd put one.

clearly Magazine Journalism was the wrong major! How depressing.

I am loving the hope that online publications bring to both the magazine industry as well as our generation's voice. A big bravo to Lonny magazine-- it's absolutely superb in every way!

I've always adored tea carts but have never even thought about bar carts. Ooh, I want. And I'm off to download Lonny right now - you've sold me on it! :)

Isn't it lovely? I love me some bar carts and I've been looking for a black lampshade for a lamp I picked out of the trash...though Im pretty sure I won't be ready for the pages of Lonny any time soon. ;-)

My next furniture purchase is going to be a bar cart- loved the ones shown in Lonny-- especially how they were styled.

I have seen this trend a lot on other blogs right now. It is a cute idea. I could use one in my space.

Love the bar carts. Here's the deal- one of us must get one and since I still live in a 1 bedroom and you live in a spacious house you need to get it! I would get one but it would have to replace my desk and I don't think I would be getting much work done because I'd be drinking the whole time...then again.
Perfect for your dining room.

(and apparently I'm still drunk)

We're planning on a little bar area in our new place, so I was happy to notice that I'm on-trend apparently :)

I too am bummed about losing the younger voiced magazine, but I think our answer is right here: WE are our voice. Blogging and online inspiration and magazines are the voice of our generation's design. I'm excited to see where it goes!

You know the magazine biz is bad when...

Your subscription to Domino is canceled and the publisher offers you several choices to replace it, and you pick Cookie, which promptly folds about six months later.

I still can't fathom what they were thinking shutting down Domino, but Cookie was an insulting joke. Completely out of step with the universe, it was simply a child as status symbol publication, with some fantastic kids room thrown in.

I completely agree with Magchunk, we are the voice.

I missed the first issue. Could someone email me the pdf of that first issue? (jwkroy@aol.com)

I have been crying since Domino folded and just found out about Lonny! Checked out the current issue and all I can say is wow!
