Of pancakes and pine trees

When I was five or six I had a dream that I was falling... through pancakes with butter and syrup and clouds made out of cotton. And when I landed, I fell with a thud onto my bed, entirely sure that I had dropped right out of the sky.

When I was seven, I rode my bike down the hill by my house... the one near the church with the giant pine trees. I had never ridden faster in my life, and I was sure that I was going as fast as the cars on Manville Road. As I flew down the hill I felt the wind pressing up against my face, pushing my cheeks back to my ears and pulling my hair back in spikes. The water poured out of the sides of my eyes and back towards my hair and I realized I couldn't feel my feet... the pedals had disappeared with the brakes and my feet went numb and my bike... it raced into the middle of Manville Road. I remember her face, the woman in the car, just as she was about to slam into me. Nothing registered... she had no expression because it happened so quick. No time to brake. She kept driving and I kept flying, right into the curb. My chin hit the pavement and my knees opened up. A second later and I would've been smashed by the woman in the car... smashed into a pancake... white cotton clouds filling up the sky.

I don't know who he is... or how he did it... but twenty five years later and he's plucked the memories right out of my head and onto my screen... and I swear I can still feel the wind hitting my chest... my hair pulling back in spikes.

Your words correspond so amazingly with these photographs and vice versa. It's as if the photographer himself tapped into your psyche and created these pictures based off of your thoughts, dreams, and memories. :)

I love the details, like the tears running from your eyes. The scary thing is I have almost the same exact memory. I was on my sister's bike, which had a big old banana seat. I hit a neighbor's tree, and the old woman came out and yelled at me while I saw stars.
