Reasons to love New York

On Monday afternoon I took the train into Manhattan for an appointment. Accompanying me on my journey were a Starbucks and New York magazine's annual Reasons To Love New York issue. Both were delish.

As I walked around my old neighborhood, I soaked in the smells and sounds and feelings of it all. Pine trees, taxi lights, doormen, hot pretzels, steam rising up from the grates, the feeling of walking along the sidewalks and getting lost in my own thoughts... And I realized one very important thing: that even though I left New York over a year ago, it still feels like home. It's welcoming and comforting and it never fails to bring me back to me.

When I got home Monday evening I settled into the crook of my couch, my laptop in the crook of my lap, and stumbled upon a series of photographs taken by Jamie at From Me To You. I sat there, scrolling down, lost in my own thoughts... of snowfalls, quiet parks, diners, coffee carts, the sound of cabs swooshing down Lex, the smell of eucalyptus outside the bodegas... It was the perfect end to a perfect day.

There is nothing quite like Manhattan this time of year. Nothing. And you will never see the essence of our city captured as perfectly as it is here...
Thank you, Jamie.

Enjoy more of Jamie's beautiful photos on her blog and over at Simple Blueprint.

These photos are beautiful! I've always wanted to go to New York. I really wish I'd have made it there when we were "so close" in Vermont. Oh, well. One day I will make it there!

I posted a last minute gift idea on the Gentle Giant today. While I don't usually pimp my blog in other people's comments, I'm making an exception for today's posting with a portion of proceeds going to Autism Speaks. Thanks, Melissa! XO

Beautiful bee! I can't get over how funny it is that my two fave bloggers (you and Emily of cupcakes and cashmere of course) are putting up posts honoring manhattan on the day I am visiting! I too moved out of this city in may but I'm with you when you say it still feels like home. Our cab flew by my old street and I couldnt help but get a tad nostalgic.

What a lovely post. I left New york for about a year and when I would visit all the little things you adored on your walk I felt too. The things I take for granted walking down the street now are all things I will love someday when I live away from this intoxicating city. Thank you for enjoying my photographs, for making it personal, and sharing it with your readers.

From Me To You,
Jamie
