Striped seating

It's been a year and one month since Paul and I moved into our house in the 'burbs. SO much has happened since then that my Domino The Book of Decorating design challenge has taken a bit of a backseat. I just haven't had the time or money to invest in decorating and renovations.

But, as I started working on Devon's nursery, it occurred to me that some of my favorite homes are the ones that have refurbished, repurposed, and DIY decor. I've never been interested in straight-out-of-the-catalog furnishings, so why should I let small details like not having two nickels to rub together get in my way? If coffee filters can be used as toilet paper, can't I be just as creative with home decor? (Kidding. Sort of.)

So, here's the first of several DIY home projects that Pablo and I took on recently. Below is an old-fashioned schoolhouse chair. I forgot to take a "before" picture, but this one looks almost identical. (We have several in our basement, actually, thanks to some good garage sale scores.)

We slapped on a few coats of yellow paint and added a white racing stripe down the middle...
And now this sunshiny chair is in Devon's nursery, alongside a pink toile fabric chair that P's parents gave us and a yellow Lou Lou Ghost Chair that I won in a giveaway.

Total DIY cost: $12 in paint.

I love using "old" items and making them new again. Can't wait to see more of Devon's "crib." AND I am still so excited for you that you won the Ghost Chair for her....I can imagine great photo ops with it!
