My Five Things by Melanie

Well, wouldn't you know...today's 5 Things post comes from my BFF, Melanie! Here is Mel's list of the five things she'd like to do in this lifetime:

1. To volunteer in SEAsia, helping to free and rehabilitate young girls forced into the prostitution slave trade.

2. To have enough wisdom and strength to become a foster parent.*

3. To grow my own veggies & fruits and become somewhat sustainable.

4. To live to see the day we find a cure—AIDS, Cancer, Diabetes, Alzheimer's...

5. To create the first modern day Pensieve, the big stone bowl Dumbledore keeps all of his memories in (in the Harry Potter movies). What I wouldn't give to go back in time and be sitting on the couch with my grammy and mom watching Julia Child on TV as the smell of her freshly baked cake comes wafting in.

PS: I post these lists in the order I receive them, so lest you think Melanie is receiving favoritism, I can assure you she is not. The fact that she is NOT receiving favoritism no doubt angers Melanie, since Melanie is what one might call...bossy. When Melanie and I first met and she realized that both of our nicknames were Mel, she decided that she would be Mel 1 and I would be Mel 2. BOSSY.

*PSS: Point #2 pretty much sums up why I love this girl so much. She has the biggest heart in the world. Thank you for being you, Mel!

Mel2,

As the older, wiser Mel I want to say thanks! I forgot that I sent this to you BTW. Love the pix....nothin says love like the big ron saying sawadeeka.

And oh the memories of when we were a size 4.

Love,
The BIG Boss. Mel1, the original. (And I use BIG to describe me in several different ways).

omg... when I saw #2 - I KNEW I had to comment. What a wonderful woman!! I've always thought I'd like to try to be a foster parent, and then I worry that I'm far too flawed to be a really great one. I ♥ Mel #1! (And of course, Mel 2, too!) :)

I've often thought about the foster parent thing. The people that do that with pure intentions are saints!
