The perfect shade.

Last week I went out with my girlfriends for cocktails. It felt good to put on a cute top, perfume, and some lip gloss. Only problem was, I couldn't find my favorite lip gloss. I'd estimate there are 27 in my medicine cabinet, but the one I wanted was missing. So, I made a new shade...two parts Nars, one part DvF. Mwah!

The whole process reminded me of one of my favorite quotes from a movie, Kissing Jessica Stein. Have you seen it? It's a hilarious film set in NYC in which Jessica Stein (Jennifer Westfeldt) is a frustrated single girl who decides to become a lesbian. In one scene she asks her date, Helen, what brand of lip gloss she's wearing. It goes something like this:

Jessica: I'm looking for that perfect one.
Helen: Trust me, you'll never find it. Blend.

Ohhh, how true it is.

I couldn't find the exact scene, but here's the trailer. If you haven't already seen the film, rent it this weekend... perfect for a snowy day.

Never seen it, but we're rumored to be getting a big storm here too, so I might just pick it up for the weekend!

So true, I used to use a combination of micro-nude and something else with another lip liner. I loved it and everyone always commented on m lips!

Can't find any of it today, bummer.

Have a great weekend.

Truer words have never been spoken. In all the years I've been playing with lipstick and gloss I've never found the perfect shade. I probably don't even know what it is for me but I found three different shades - one gloss, one sheer lip gloss and one lip gloss in a tube. Together they give me the perfect glimmer, shade and shine. (P.S. The lipstick is a shade I started wearing in HS - if Maybelline ever discontinues it I might jump off a bridge!)

Thank you for the movie recommendation!!!! I have never seen/heard of this and I am very eager to watch it now! ox

so so true! even if you're able to find the perfect color, adding another one on top adds some much-needed dimension.

I had not heard of this movie before -- it's now on the list. :)

And so true about the blending... and how screwed you are when you can't find "the one" that is the old standby.

Glad you were able to get away for some girl time! Hope you had a blast. (hmmm... "a blast". Now I am 11 again?)
