I felt a little silly going outside Sunday morning to take photographs on our street. Truth is, I've been avoiding the camera like the plague while I worked off the 60 pounds I gained during pregnancy. It took seven months, but I finally shed the baby weight and I plan to keep going. And though I don't have any sort of expertise in the way of weight-loss advice, so many of you have emailed me for my diet and exercise plan, so I've decided to share it with you.
Stats:
Pounds lost: 60. {62 if you ask my gym scale. I like that scale.}
Sizes dropped: 1-2-3-4-5!
Diet plan:
Sizes dropped: 1-2-3-4-5!
Diet plan:
I lost 30 pounds within the first three weeks of giving birth, so you can imagine how much water weight I was carrying. My face looked like a circus balloon. The next 15 came off without much effort, simply by cutting out the ice cream and chips I favored during pregnancy. Side note: Do not eat everything you want while pregnant. It is SO not worth it!
I hit a plateau after 45 pounds, and so I signed myself up for the BluePrintCleanse. The five-day juice cleanse helped me shed another four pounds, plus it forced me to eliminate caffeine {albeit temporarily}, sugar, and heavy carbs.
Following the cleanse, I adopted what is now my current meal plan: between 1,200 and 1,500 calories per day, and hardly any whites {pasta, bread, sugar, etc.}. Here's a sample menu...
Breakfast {choose one}:
Banana/Blueberry/Skim milk smoothie; Organic Honey Crunch & Oats Cereal; Two scrambled eggs + two pieces Spelt toast.
Lunch:
Salad of organic mixed greens, baby carrots, cucumber, tomato, avocado, cranberries, and parmesan grated cheese. Balsamic vinegar + one TBSP dijon mustard for dressing. Occasional scoop of tuna on top {no mayo}.
Dinner:
Salad, grilled chicken or fish, and a veggie {we like string beans, okra, and spinach}.
Snacks {at least two per day}:
Apple; green seedless grapes; blueberries. Water + chamomile tea throughout the day.
Once a week, I'll have some sort of a cheat day, where I eat a chicken salad sandwich on focaccia bread {my fave!} for lunch... OR... I'll indulge in pasta, pizza, or sushi {with brown rice} for dinner. And about once every two weeks or so I'll have frozen yogurt or two scoops of coffee ice cream for dessert. I also have 3-5 glasses of wine or beer per week. I think it's important to treat yourself, so that you think of your eating habits as a lifestyle, not a diet.

Exercise routine:
This has been tough. Since I work from home and watch Devon, I can't get to the gym as much as I'd like. And though I tried the Wii Fit and Jenny McCarthy's at-home workout, I've found that I really need to get out of the house in order to be motivated. Here's what I do during a typical workout, 2-4x per week:
Elliptical machine: 25-45 minutes, up to level 12 resistance.
Treadmill: Walk for 20-30 minutes at 3.5 mph while holding 2.5 pound weights; run for 2 minutes every 8 minutes or so.
Shoulder/triceps/biceps/chest/back exercises: Low weight, three sets of 15 reps.
Leg/quad/glute exercises: Squats and lunges {while lifting 2.5 pound weights}; leg press machine at 100 pounds, three sets of 10 reps.
Ab exercises: I balance on my butt while moving a 6-pound ball from my left side to my right, three sets of 45 reps. Then I lie on my back and do 3 sets of 15 leg lifts.
So, there you have it. Jillian Michaels would probably snort with laughter at my routine, as would Gunnar Peterson and all of the other celeb trainers and dieticians. But, it's working for me, and so I feel I must pass along what little knowledge I have onto you.
Kisses and hugs and skinnier asses and jugs,
Bee

Melissa, you look WONDERFUL!! Good job on all the hard work, and the healthy lifestyle.
You have no idea how badly I needed this inspiration today! The scale is not my friend right now. I did not have a baby (I wish), but medications, stress, etc have caused me to be at my heaviest.
I am on the road to weight loss though...and I am going to check out that cleanse. I'm assuming they tasted ok/good?
Thank you so much for sharing, and you look FABULOUS!
You look great! Way to go mama!
Your determination and perseverance is exceptionally inspiring. You are doing a great job balancing the work it takes to shed the weight as well as giving yourself some time to indulge. The key here is that you are happy and content and don't sound as though you feel the bitterness related to diet and fitness which will make you continue to follow the routine. Well done!
First of all, you are absolutely beautiful! I love this photo of you and am so, SO happy for you about getting back to where you wanted to be! I am in the same boat and am working towards my goal. Sounds like an excellent plan & you should be so, so proud of yourself for accomplishing your goal. It is super, super hard....right? Thanks for sharing this hun!

Melis
you are so cute and I adore that outfit!!! It's no wonder you started the feather report styling momma!
Your meal plan just made me drool it all sounds so good. Congrats on all the progress and weight loss and the drive and desire to continue!!!!
I'm on my own weight loss journey so it's nice to see others doing theirs and having success!
We can tell Jillian to shut her pie hole together - do you know she was on a tv show and the person raided her fridge and there was tons of ice cream!! AND Jill openly admitted she ate ice cream for dinner the night before! Even Jill has off days! :)
Seriously congrats. Sounds like you've found a great, healthy way to feel good. Glad for you!
Congrats! You look fabulous!
Diet and excercise...and life...is all about what works for you. And this seems to work wonders. You look great. My 60lbs took a lot longer than 7 months to leave...and the muffin top flab is still putting up a fight. Grr. Thanks fit sharing your story and your plan!!
You look amazing. I am so happy for you. I am fat, fat, fat and my baby is 10. I feel defeated because I try over and over again and fail every time... every.single.time.
Congratulations, you look great.
I'm intrigued by the cleanse thing, but not intrigued enough to spring $70 bucks a day. What made you pick that brand? Did you consider other cleansing methods or doing it yourself?
Hooray for Bee! You look amazing. Better than me who has never had a kid.
You look fantastic! I agree with you, it's all about finding a routine that works for you and makes you feel good!

Susan: I really like the Cleanse after I get through the empty stomach feeling on Day 2. I've done it four or five times now, so, for me, preparing makes it easy. I had tons of energy. Def recommend;)
Countess: I kind of just went with what worked with me in the past. I'll email you the code!

Yey! Congratulations! You look so great - so I have a question... can you also tell us about your makeup, because you look natural and lovely (and I have similar coloring, except my dark hair is ehem salt and pepper now)? Please? Thanks!
Wowza lady. You look absolutely incredible!
Awesome job! What a pretty mommy you are and I love your outfit!
you go, foxy mama! you are hawt!
Lookin' good lady! Happy for you! I'm always find it hard to convince myself to get up extra early to squeeze in 3 runs a week... You are very determined, I like it!
you look amazing! congrats :)
p.s. love your shirt!
Sure, Liza:) I use Nars everything--concealer under my eyes, the Multiple on my cheeks (St. Bart's), mascara, lip gloss (Foul Play) and a little bronzer (South Beach).
Maddy: It's actually a dress from Forever 21 (I just tied the rope belt in the back because of my necklaces.) Here's the link: http://www.forever21.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=FOREVER21&category%5Fname=dress%5Fcasual&product%5Fid=2055985019&Page=all&pgcount=25
Thanks!! I'm on a rare trip to the mall tomorrow (seriously... can't remember the last one!) so I think I'll pick some up.
you look gorgeous lady! I found breast feeding to do the trick...well not anymore:) The hardest for me is to eliminate the whites..
Thank you, thank you. I too have a seven month old baby and gained just as much weight. AHH. I so know how hard it is. GOOD JOB!! Thanks for the tips and inspiration, the exercise routine seems like something I could actually do..and I agree getting out the house is key. Thanks again for sharing...Im going to starting working out again tomorrow! You look great.
You look fabulous!!
Anna Jane: Jenny's workout was intense, I thought. There's a test workout when you first put it on, which Paul got an F on (I got an A-, thank you), and Paul is a certified personal trainer! Still, I couldn't get into it. Too many distractions at home.
Anna: Yes. Buy jeans in the size you want to be. Also, my friends have done Weight Watchers and liked it.
YOU ARE SUCH AN INSPIRATION!!!! Knowing that it can be done healthily and most importantly by a busy girl gives me hope for my 'lil bee time! 'Til then keep rocking and rolling and you will get to where ever you want to be!!!
Congrats girl, that's awesome!! Keep it up! :)
great post! i'm not pregnant or planning to have babies any time soon but i'm definitely going to implement this regime into my daily life.
thanks so much! love your blog!
You look radiant!
thanks for sharing your story. it took me a bit longer and i tell you those last 10 pounds were difficult to lose.
you look sooo gorgeous! have you thought about adding greek yogurt to the mix? i just started eating it in the mornings recently and it is great! so much protein -- it keeps me from snacking tooooo much!
congratulations!! you look fantastic.
So funny you should say that, Lexie... I just went to the store last night and picked up a bunch of Greek yogurt. I forgot how much I love them and they are so low in calories if you get the fat free ones! I put blueberries on mine.
Wow I'm so inspired. I just wrote a post yesterday about how I have to lose 40 more pounds of baby weight (two babies in 20 months) and I'm super depressed. Melissa of Reverie pointed me towards your blog, and this post, and I must admit I'm crying in admiration and determination. I applaud you - I know how hard this is. I hope I'm as successful as you have been. Thank you for sharing your success.
first of all, you look amazing, bee! second of all, so much work! envy your discipline and now more than ever understand your comment about the nutella doughnut recipe -- had forgotten it was the summer of skinny! now excuse me while i run off to they gym! xoxo
You go, girl!
