A very cool initiative is going on at Prada: the fashion house is collaborating with artisans around the world to produce original pieces using the materials and techniques of specific regions. More Scotland, please. And I'll pair it with Peru!
Side note: Prada was the first designer bag I ever bought. It was one of those nylon messenger slings, and I still have it today. What was your first-ever bag?
Prada was my first bag too, I am embarrassed to admit I still use my nylon Prada cross body bag when I am out running errands even though it's way past it hay day.
Have a great weekend! xo jules www.datingmykitchen.com
SO funny! My first designer bag was Prada, too! I bought it at the store at a 40% off sale...a black mini nylon hobo with leather accents. I was sick at the price tag back then...
This is awesome, need to go look at more online stat!
My first real (aka not Canal St faux-bag) was a LV Speedy in Monogram - my BF now husband got it for me for x-mas a few years ago. So I guess technically I haven't made an 'IT' bag purchase...he keeps gifting me the ones I eye! (He's trained well)
Looks like Prada was the first for a lot of us! I got a nylon hobo at a Prada factory outside of Florence while I was studying in Italy. I loved (and wore) it for a long time..and I'll never get rid of it :)
Great find on the new Prada initiative! www.stellawishes.com
so cool! gosh, i think my first designer bag was kate spade (does that count?) after college. it was discounted so heavily that it was practically free, but at the time...it was a bundle (not to mention, heinous).
I'm not sure which I bought first - my Louis Vuitton "Pochette" (which I believe Kate Moss made popular) or that same Prada nylon cross-body bag. That Prada bag was so useful; I even brought it with me while I was trekking through the Australian Outback! (In retrospect, not the smartest travel accessory.)
I had the good fortune of working for LVMH corporate straight out of college, so I had the LV Monogram Papillon when I was about 23 (the hubs called it the squirrel bag because it looked like this toy log we both had as kids that was actually a carrying case for a little family of squirrels- anybody else?). I loved it so until it was stolen out of my car last year :(
But, fortunately, I collected a few other LV's as backup during my years there :)
I have that same prada that you have and it is my favorite for travel - especially when the trip will include a lot of sight seeing. It fits my camera and some other gear plus money, lipstick and whatever other small things I need. I always feel safe wearing it in front.
My first bag though is a Fendi doctor bag. I adore it. I've had it for over ten years. I love it. I haven't worn it in ages but it sits proudly in its duster in my closet.
This is me playing devil's advocate, and I'm sure I am going to get an earful, but doesn't this seem like a way of marketing outsourcing in a way that the "new conscious consumer" would maybe buy into? Companies making garments in these countries is not new, but making a fancy label is. Embroidery in India is gorgeous... and cheap. Like, really seriously cheap. I doubt very much that this is much more than a way to do things the way they always have, but with a spin that brings them up to date politically. Brilliant marketing though.
I used to work for Coach back in college before they rebranded, but I have been pretty die hard loyal ever since due to their quality and craftsmanship. I have recently collected some of the ones I always wanted back in the day (that I was too broke to afford in college) through ebay. They last forever...
Prada is one of my list of purse to have too. However my first ever designer bag is from Coach.(Hopefully and fingers crossed I will have my longing Lv purse this christmas. I still wanted mine direct to buy from European countries and hopefully the craftmanship and tag will be honest enough to be european made..to be worth my money of course:)

A Chloe bag I got on eBay. :P BUT I'm still saving my pennies to go buy one in person. Lots of pennies!
These all look amazing! I am still longing for my first "real" bag.

i have yet to purchase my first designer bag ... i have balenciaga dreams, though!
My first was a Gucci bag. I never treated it right & it got really banged up but I still have it. And I still love it!

My mom's hand-me-down Coach! Maybe not so high-brow, but it meant a lot to me.

My first, what I like to call "big girl bag", was a gift from my then boyfriend now fiance, a coach for christmas. :-) I love a big girl bag.

Prada can just never go wrong! Always such stylish ideas!

I love to find great pieces in Europe that haven't made it over to the states!
Prada is a favorite!
My first was either a Miu Miu or LV. They were both bought in the same year and I can't remember which was bought first.
I love the one from Japan!!
